PHYSIQUE IN, INDIAN ARMY.

Calcutta, Jan. 30.-Witha view to maintaining the prosont stand- ard of physical training in the In- dinn Army, the Government of In- dia have authorised the following establisinment of qualified instruc- tors to be maintained in the Iudian, units Indian Cayalry, four in- structors; Indian Infantry-in- cluding the three corps of Sapper's and Minors-sight instructors..

Sanction has also boon accorded' to a grant of Its. 00 and Its. 84 per annum to each Indian cavalry and infantry regiment respec- tively for distribution to all or any of the instructors us extra duty ny under tlie orders of thio officer commanding the unit concerned.

The Government of India havo sanctioned the formation of a class of physical training at the Central Gymnasium, Ambala,next month, The Government of India have also sauctioned the appointment of two additional Colour Sergounts | to give instruction to the Rangoon Volunteer Itifles.

BOXING.

MILITARY FIELD DAY.

Military tactical operations will be carried out on Monday at Failing, in which the Tollowing regiments and corps will take 13th purt II.KS.BR.G.A., Rajputs, Indian Medical Staff, H.M.LI, Royal Engineers, KO.Y.L.I., R.A.MC, Hongkong Volunteer Corps, and the Royal Garrison Artillery. Trains will leave Hunghom at 6; 8, and 0150' a.m., to convey"the troops, which will be divided into thros parties.

The operations are expected to be the best over carried out in the

New Territory. A large nuinber

of-Volunteers are taking part. The Censo fire order will be given at 5.30 puh.

Owing to the ovements of the troops on Monday, the No. 5 down train from Kowloon and No.6 train from Lowu have been can- *colled.'

U.S. ASIATIC FLEET.

In an order issued by Admirál John Hubbard, commandor in chief of the Asiatic fleet, the U.S.S. Saratoga is named us the flag- ship of the fleet, in accordance with advices received by the cable from the secretary of the Navy, that the armoured cruiser New York Ind boon renamed the Sara- toga.
