EXPERT OPINION.

Doctor Wn Lion-toh, telegraph- ing from Harbin says

|

While principally puomenic, thirty por cent. is secondarily opticnomic, sevon por cont, pri- marily septicaomic, rarely enteric. 1 Ivo obtained pare cultures of bacilli in each of these typos. Dr. Mesny's case was purely septi- enemic. Microscopical examinas tion shows that the microbe las the usual cultural clusracteristics and is apparently the same as that found in bubonic plague. The few rats wo have been able to ex - Amino liave been found uninfected; we have examinod no flens, those not being obtainable. The viru- lence of the microbe is multiplied Do it passos from' man' to man. There is considerablo ovidence that the disease is transmittable by breath as well as through. the sputum. Vory cluso contact is, apparently, not nouussáry, Dr. Shu Shih-ning probably became infected moroly through speaking with a sorvant. There has come undermy observation noauthentic 'case of recovery. Doctors Mesay and Shu become infected despito their vaccination with the Haffkine vaccine. So also was the cuso with a number of the Issian modical assistants who have died. Masking seems to be the most in- portant to be taken to protect the individual."

Provident Nakamura, of the South Manchurian Railway, uskød to give the sensus, of opinion of Japiness doctors at Dairen and in the Railway Zonic, wires us follows:
