CANTON DAY BY DAY.
DISTURBANCE IN A THEATRE!. [From Our Own Correspondent.]
Canton, 3rd Nov
There was some trouble at the Grat of! Nicola's parformances here at the Tung Hing Theatre a few nights ago, when there was a large attendance of Europaans. At hälf time a number of coolies, mostly ricksha pul. lers and vegetable Carriers, endeavoured to force their way into the theatre. They were forcibly ejected whereupon they began to palt the win dows with sionas and tr'ed to overters the all Jamps and thus net fire to the building. Their object no doubt was to cause a panic among the womeşand in the confusion to relleva them of their omsmenis. Happily, their plans wäre frustrated by the calm and prompt action of the Police, whe succeeded in bolding the rabble at bay until Admiral Li appeared on the scene with a strong detachment of guards, who soon put the stoly element to flight, No casualties have been reported, neliber has there been any further dattorbances. Nicolá soon afterwards resumed his performance.

The baband putitioned the Total of Police upon which the curing constable at once ran away, leaving, with characteristic indiff stence, the unfortunate woman to bear the brant of his ins quity.
