In the course of a conversation with Mr. Z. G. Dunn, of the Pacific Mail, whose wife is a passenger on the Mongolia, it was learned that the vessel was on a perfectly level keel after grounding and it 'was not until a good dent of cargo had been shifted that the slightest list was noticeable, Mrs. Duna was on the verse! at the time of the mishap and, naturally enough, Mr. Dunn was anxious as t: bar safety, but on Saturday Mrs. Dann landed by one of the faunches and came on to Takyo by train. Mr. Wolle, who is also now in Tokyo, went down by train on Friday evening but did not get on board until Saturday morning. He reports that, despite the facilities offered to passengers to land if they so desired, many of them chose to remain on board, the safety of the vessel being considered to be beyond all question.
The Mongolia has a vérỳ, valuable cargo: puthaps one of the most valuable ever slowed below het batches. In addition to a large amount of general cargo from Hongkong, the vessel has valuable consigaments of tea and silk, having called at Keelong for tea on the way up. A considerable quantity of the ter has been landed. None of the cargo has been damaged, nor is it, anticipated that any of it will be harmed.
It is somethlog of a coincidence that four accidents have happened to the Mongolia and each one bas occurred during the absence of her regular skipper, Capials Monon. The liner is known among officers of the company as
