TRANSFORMING THE WHITE CITY:-

EAST IN THE WEST.

A letter was read from Mr. M. B. Nilsca concerning the 'qualification of voters and re- questing the Council to refer his particular case to the Diplomatic Corps at Peking. The Secretary, was directed to inform Mr. Nilsen that the Council res reited that they could not comply with his request, as they were of opinion that the question had been definitely settled by the despatch from the Diplomatic Corps at Peking, ia copy of which was recently published in the Amoy Gorette,

A well-informed correspondent in a warning letter writes have bean much interested in your valuable comments on the subject of rubber, and i believe that this so-called rubber boom is likely to develop into' a permanent success in the care of companies founded on bonest lives. But what of the others? Soma considerable time ago a concern was floated, and the prospectus described the property as planted with Paratrees leady for profitable tapping, and the figures estimating the probable income of the company were most attractive, I bave since had reliable information to the effect that the trees on this cute are pot Para bot Castillos treet, which bave suffered very severely from insect pests, and, further, that there has been no export of Para os Castillos rubber from this district, though the pros pectus states or implies that a number of the trees are well established.
