TRE" CLEPELAND" PARTY..
FIRST CONTINGENTS OFF TO CANTON, The second party of American tourists, com. prising 756 ladies and gentlemen, arrived at Hongkong from Japan last night on board the steamer Gleveland. Throughout the day the city was alive with, the American visitors who were doing the sights of the city. Contrary to all expectations the Viceroy of Canton bas removed his objections to the visit by the parly- to the Southern capital when bls Excellency learnt that the tourists would be broken up into contingents of not exceeding bundred, at time who would visit Canton. The erroneous Impression was got abroad that all the seven hundred odd visitors would invade the city en maste, whereas in reality the project contem- plated the splitting up of the party in groups. Two contingents left for Canton this morning ; both consisted of 150 members each. They left by the Einhan aad Fatskan, respectively. A third contingent of 25 members will leave *by the Haungthan to-night.

He would wish to emphasize rather the character of the solution presnoted by the schems.
