There was an exciting race with a very cinte finish for the "Also Ran" Stakes Younger Brother just managed to beat Trawist by a nece at the post, Walnut Tree, the favourite, as not placed, and disappointed his large number of supporters. The field got away.on qual terms. Before the first quartar was covered Llama Chief rushed to the front and held the commanding position on passing the spectators' stand for the first time by several lengths from Starlight, Astral being third and Giesler hard held last. Tartar Chief was slightly in front of Giesler. Up the incline Giesler and Tartar Chief ex- changed places for a short while and then the Chief crept up again. At the Black Rock they formed a partnership and in company raced down the hill. Llama Chief was leading by five lengths round the band into the home straight, Giesler came up in fine style on the outside and was "second in the last furlong, romped home a winner from Llama Chief by balf a length. Astral was a poor third.

A very good start. Spirit Level took the lead on the rails. Galloping past the Stand on the first round the leaders were Spirit Level, Younger Brother and Job Trotter in the order named. Spirit Level was abend by two lengths at Bowrington gate with Boreas second and Goshawk third, Spirit Levol was leading at the bottom of the incline. Walnut Tree and Younger Brother crept op in.com. pany and soon drew level with the leaders. Spirit Level showed to the frost in the home straight and was hogging the rails, while Younger Brother on the outside came up in spanking gallop with Walout Tree-lying behind. A fine race ensued to the winning post which Younger Brother managed to win by neck from Trewint second and Sunny Jim a good third.
