The boat is fitted with a Gardner kerosane motor of 75 Brake H. P., Gardner's patent ravorno gear, solid bronze propeller and magneto ignition. "It was necessary that the particulars should be filled in, and, an I was wondering what to do, for the doctor wanted to get married as soon as bis intended arrived, it occurred to me that Stepney is the seaman's, parish, and all chil. | India T.T. dren born at sea are registered as of that parish, 1, therefore, determined to register the young lady as in the parish of Stepney; and in ibat way solved the problem to his satisfaction.
The Chinese nation I regard anthe greatest on carb, for the Chinoman can live on next to nothing, and he has no fear of death. Their intelligence is remarkable, and so is their power of adaptability. When i first went our to Hongkong I found a large number of the soldiers in some of the outlying districts up the Yangtra were armed with only bows and arrows. Three years later, when I went there agaib, they were fully equipped.with excellent rifles and were well drilled. The only peculiarity was that they knelt to prescot arms.
"I was in Poking at the end of the Boxer trouble; and though I was advised not go out, Just the mob should attempt violence because I was a foreigner, 1 paid no attention to the advice.
"Only on one, occasion was I menaced in any way. Then I was surrounded, by, some 3,000 people, and, I thought from their action that I was going to be killed. It occurred to me, however, that 1- bad had a tooth covered with gold in San Francisco. I pointed to it, and at once the simple people thought I must *be a demi-god, and became quite friendly. They even took me into one of the temples and showed me admitingly to the priests, because of my golden tooth
