PROVINCIAL TREASURER,

The newly appointed Kwangtung Provincial Treasurer, Chan Kwai Liu, is expected to arrive here to-morrow and it is reported that he will take over the sexl of office on the following day. A delegation of officials has been sent to Hongkong on board a gunboat to meet the coming official.

FIRE.

At 1.40 pm yesterday a fire broke out in No, a, Yuen Shing Street in the Western suburb. Though the outbreak took place in the day time and the different fire brigades ar rived at the scene in time to reader assistance, the fire kept baralpg fiercely for some time and destroyed eighteen buildings in all.

DENUNCIATIONS.

It is learnt that the Viceroy has submitted a memorial to the Throne, in which H.E. Yuan denounced some twenty of his subordinates on various counts,

SCHOOL SPORTS.

At the school sports to be held on the 27th and 28th instant at the East Parade Ground, the band of the Canton Sacred Heart College, bas kindly coasenied to play selections of music during the proceedings.

Prince Tsai Hsu, accompanied by the members of the Imperial Chinese Naval Com mission, weat by train from Paddington on the 2th ult. to Windsor on a visit to the King: The Mayor was on the platform to receive the distinguished visitors, who were conveyed to the Castle in Royal carriages. After the re ception by His Majesty the Commissioners were entertained ut luncheon. At the end of the meal rice was served in the King's royal bine turaens, and gold chopsticks were placed for the use of the visitors. Another compli ment paid to them was the serving of Chinese tea after the luncheon,
