POSTAL HUMOUR.

WITH THE WORLD'S ECCENTRICS: MISTAKES AND PRACTICAL JOKES,

Step by step the fever and pressure of mo- dam life in driving all gaiety and humour from the world. Bo says Mr. Albert M. Hyamson in his preface to bis book, "The Humour of the Post Office," published by Messrs. Routledge, some extracts from which we reproduced last

week.

Then like a true humorist, he proceeds at once to give the lie direct to his own staleman!. The book is the best shillings worth of printed entertainment we have handed for a long time. There is humour-ecosscious and otherwins on every page. It shows us the postal official is a new light-as a victim to 'practical jokes who enjoys the jokes batter than the jokers themselves do. Here is a sample-

A lady entered a London post-office and presented at the" counter a letter-card which, to judge from is bulged appearance, contained an enclosure. She gave it to the counter clerk and asked her (politely, mind you1ta be so good as to sit na it until pom time to make it flxt.

CA. TALL ORDER,

A Frenchmani residint in Scotland, who wat accustomed to receive sausages and other det cacies through the port from home found bit parcoli, frequently suffered from piltering on the journey, To prevect himself he had a libel _printed with the following inscription, and had

one placed on, every parcel-

The precaution proved efficacious.

CHILD-LIKE FAITH.

„As an instance of the child-like. faith repose-1. by some persons, the following may be nar rated:-

A well-known firm of narcel delivery agents tried to deliver a parcel addressed to: Mr. Jacomb King at an address in Chelata. There was no such person living or knowe at this address, so the carman took the parcel away. Next day there came a printed circular address. ad to Mr, King at the same address savipk :-

Sir, We have to inform you that our carman has not been aḥþls to find you Please talúrn this advice with full particulars of your address, and state the name of the sender, with a descrip- tion of the consignment you expect. Whether the gentleman was found in rint stated.

CHIQUE IN A DOG KENNEL, Complaints to the Post Office are not always, -be'it anid, well-founded. On one occasion a complaint was mide that a letter containing a cheque for a large amount had been stoles in the post. The letter was ultimately found in scraps among the straw in n kennel, but for tunately, no pieces were missing. The post.

ZADKIEL-AS A PROPB51.

‘A 'CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT'IN 1910,

"Zadkiol's Almanack for 1910, which has just been pablished, is not cheerful reading; but then one does not expect it to be. It has beed said, however, that, although the planels influence they do not compel, and, therefore, there is always a possibility of averting or avoid- ing danger when one knows it is approaching, |,which is a little comforting.

The Government are promised a lively time by the prophet. The entry of Mars into Taurus

the sign that rules Ireland-in February in 'dicates trouble there. Io March Salora in Aries will cause anxiety to Great Britain, es pecially as regards India and the For Ezal. There, will also be aetioun trouble in Berlin, St. Petersburg, and Vienna in that month, owing to Saturn being predominant at the Vernal Equinox. Zadkiel warns the nations mentioned,

In April fires will be so prevalent in London that insangers of theatres are warned to take every precision aggjort them; possibly eve theatre will be burned. Murders, robberies with violence, and suicides will be rife in Lone don in this month.

One of the most interesting items in the Al- manac is the Royal Horoscope: This indicates that his fenty the King and the Foraign S cretary will have so anxious time, and the military and 1.5val forces will have to be ip censed owing to the state of affairs in Europe and in India,,

A'marriage in the Royal family is forecasted The King is advised not to travel abroad either to the spring or summer.

The King's horoscope further indicates a change of Government, and iso; a anccessful treaty in the cuur è of peice, which brings an jecrease of honour to bis Majesty

The Kaisar is warned to beware of secret enemies, in February, and not to rua risks or to travel abroad before the summer,

Evibquakes are likely to be numerous, and 10 cover a wide pren. For details as to time and place, the "Imanick must be consulted.

Altogether, a vaned list of troubles and trials in 1915.
