JAPANESE IN CHINA,

The licho de Chine of 14th inst. contains an Interesting article translated from the column of the Jin Chow Rik Pan The author of tht. article le a Japanese, whose object is to advol cate a vigorous policy on the part of Japan is her fosocial and commercial dealings with China. The N. C. D. We are of the opinion that our Governmen should send immediately many of our fellow countrymen into the inferior of China. Since our language and race are similar to those of the Chinese, it would be very easy for us to become merchants, and professors. It would be much easier for us than for white people to baya chore commercial relations with the Chin asă,

.

-Eight years ago we started in Shanghai the Tung Wen College, This school har already supplied us. with 270 students, whi have a perfect knowledge, of the Chinese language, both spoken and written. They have, penetrated into the interior of the country and are now able to engage in busines with the natives without the Intervention of compradores, What benefits might not accrub to dls were we largely to increase the number of | such students!

For ten years we bive entirely ignored the Anancial stato of China:-Since last year, how. ever, many Japaness books have appeared which treat of Chinese faancial and commercial matton. To speak frankly, if we are now ac quainted with the pecualary and financial situ tion in China, it is because we have founded the Tang Wan College and have sent one hundred of our young men into the eighteen pro vincas of Chios, to make a study of commercial matters. If we continua on these lines we shall

assuredly come to have a yet better knowledge

of the financial state of China

Let our capitalists and merchants be of our mlad for the development of their industries and their commerce. If they can act in the way, in ten years it will not be the white people but we who shall obtain the financial rights of Ohlas, and the Occidentale, ao longer able to. compete with us in China, will return to the Occidis) and give way to profound despair.
