The result of a survey made by the Osaka Municipal authorities shows that the area devastated by the fire is 1,840 kan, or 30 che (21:10 miles) in length, from Kushia-machi, where the fire originated on the east, to the Nippon Spinning Mill at Fukush ma, on the west, and the widest part is 300 ken or 5 cho (one-third of a mile), from the Yangi bridge to | the premises of the Sampai Company, and the Barrowest 40 ken or 240 feel, covering a tola! -aren of 369 438 tsubo or 113 chó (about 305.3 acres).

Peking, 15th August. A memorial has been submitted by the Ministry of Finance pointing out that every economy should be practised in view of the unsatisfac- tory condition of the finances of the Empire.
