The story of the armed robbery which was committed at Yan-ma-ti last month, and which created a sensation throughout this Colony. because of the death of two men-Police con- stable Mills, who was fatally shot by one of the robbers; and the shooting and killing of one of the robbers by Policeman Hedge was told at the Criminal Sessions, last Wednesday fore Boop, when four men-Li Yau, Su-Wah, Li Kat, and Lam Lai were put on their trial.

In future, we may expect an Improvement for foreign trade at Takao, and the above figures will give an idea of the port as foreign trading place, but the figures for 1907 and 1908 must be regarded as abnormal, due to the large import of sugar machinery. and not as an iqdex of the normal expansión of trade.

ON ENGLISH, POLICE INTERPRETER'S STATEVENT. A very extraordinary statement was made by * police interpreter in the witness-box at the Supreme Court, last Monday. The Chief Justice summed up before the tiffie hour, and the jury brought in a verdict of guilty against the first and second prisoners; who were sentenced to seven and áve ̃years' | hard labour respectively and each to receive twenty-four strokes of the birch. The third and fourth were acquitted.

The story of the informer showed how the robbery was planned, how it was carried out, and how he came to be arrested, which led to the seizure of the others. He stated that on the night, in question he and the prisoners started out to commit armed robbery,
