"The sixtieth anniversary of the reign "of Emperor Joseph I was fittingly celebrated yes tarday afternoon by the Austrian community in Hongkong, when Connal and Mri, Von Wiger bold an "At Home" at "The Firs," Magazine Gap Road. The grounds were pretilly decorated with flags and a large, faithful portrait of the Emperor was prominently displayed in the Hall, tastefully decorated with "ever Breens. The Band of the Buffs onlivened the proceedings with pleasing selections of musle, which was greatly appreciated.

'Canton, 2nd December. At iz o'clock noon to-day all officials, civi! ́and military, assembled at the Imperial Temple, (Man Shon Kung) to perform ceremonial rites "on the occasion of the enthronement of the pew Emperor Iisuan Tung. The officials were in ordinary official dreis during the proceedings, at the conclusion, of which mourning was once
again resumed. The representatives of the different countries at Canton were also present at tba ceremony to offer their ebagratulations to the Chinese officials on the event. The day has been observed by the officials and many others as a holiday, and some prominent build- logs were gaily decorated. Salutes were fired by the Chipers guoboats at noon,

ENCOUNTER WITH INSURGENTS.
