THE NEW P. AND O STEAMERS.
The largest vessel yet built at Greenock, the
Adaiwa, a twin-screw 3 cämer of 11,500 100% grote measurement, was launched, on Oct. 10 from the yard of Mossie Caird and Co. She in the first of two, similar vassals to the order. of the Peninsular-and Oriental Company, the second vessel, the Maniu, being on the stocks adjacent to those just vacated by the Malwa and neuring the launching stage. A third and "similar volie), the` Moren, was launched in Angust from the yard of Messrs. Barclay, Ourle and Co., Whiteinch, this alan being the largest steamer ever sent off the stocks at Whiteinch. All three vessels are intended for the P. and O. Company's service to India and Australia. They will be the largest in the "West, which they will augment by almost 30,000 tour, bringing the total coomags up to 413,600 tons, and the average of each ship of the ex- lating, fleet up to 6,780 tons... The dimensions. of the Malwa, as of her sisters are:-Length, 560 f; breadib, út ít ; and depth-(10-spar deck), 38 ft 3 in., and she is filled with accommod ation of the highest class for 450 first-class and 200 second-class passengers. She will be fitted by bar builders with quadruple expansion ep- gines capable of propelling her at a high-speed. The vessel will bo steered and her cargo will be worked by hydraulic gear of up-ts.date character for rapidity and silence in working.
