2DBAD MAN'S EYES OPEN. N
PANIC AMONG WATCHERS' ROUND & COFFIN, A siartling scene in a 'death-room has oc- curred at Wavertred, a suburb of Liverpool, --After-ä-short.illness a public-biguse manager died, a doctor certified in the arual way, and .preparations for the interment want on.
White a large number of persons were wait. ing in the street to see the funeral start a weird scene was taking place in the death chamber. The screwing down of the coffin-lid had been left to the 1st moment, and the widow and few intimate friends of both sexes were in the bedroom where the corpse ly to the coffin ex- posed to view,
I
As they were taking a final look the eyes of the dead man were teen to opon, and his arms to move. A panic followed. Some of the wo- mes fainted, and the others rushed hysterically
from the room.
',
The services of two docious were procured, and they were able to assure the bereaved family that the man was really dead, and that there was no foundation for the rumour" which 'gained currency that be had been in a trance, from which he had swakened just in time to escape being buried alive.
After a long delay the coffin was brought fartby and the party started for the cemetery.
