Lew King was probably one of the best known Chinose on the Usast. He was interested in the management of several merchant com- paules, among which are the Mee Chong Com pany, 'a Japapasa biziзr at 1319 Third avenue, the Sun Wah Compasy, at 120 Washington street, and Hing & Company, Chiness, mer chants 81 214 Washington street. He came to Seatila (wenty-six years ago and at first effgaged la contracting with the Great Northern and Northern Pacific railways for Chinese labour. After saying in America, ten years, he went back to China for a bride, the present Mr. Lew King. Ha had been active in Chinese reforms, and last year was the pit of the Chinese Reformi Association, and at the time of his death was the secretary. He spoke Eng lish plainly, and at one time he was the inter-Tennan, Ch. 1.8., 9.2, A. A. Crawford, 261 preter of the state supreme court and also for the immigration officer at Tacoma.

Mr. Xing, in 1889, lost all bis property in the big fire, comprising his own home and two mercantile bouses, none of them baing jasured. "He spent a large part of his life in teaching the Christian faith to his countrymen and was noted for his benevolence. Besides his widow Lew Klug leaves three sons, Lew G. Kag, a sepior at the University of Washington, now al San Francisco on his vacation; Lew Soun and Lew Dai, students at the Washington high 'school, and two daughters, Lon aud Fannie, students at the Washington high school. There is also a brother of Lew King, Lew Yee Gy

who Has charge of the Sun Wah Company at 310 Washington alieel.

Lew King numbered among his friends, Judge CH. Siaford, for whom he was inter- preter, and Judge Roger S. Greata. No funtral arrangements will be made until the eldest son, Lew G. Kay, returns from San Francico.

On the 26th at 13,20 p.-The barometer bas

risen moderately in the Philippines, and fallen rapidly over N. Annam and Tongking.

The typhoon, which continues to move to. wards W.N.W., is situated this morning to the South of Halban.

Pressure has increased moderately in NE Japan, fallen slightly over the E. coast of Chios, the Loochoos and the Boning. It is now high over. E. Japan, and low, apparently, over the Pacific to the Loochoos and Boains,

- Fresh N.E., winds may be expected in the Formosa Chanel, and cyclonic gate over the N.W.part of the China Sea.
