November it next. The motive which has prompted the railway companies to adapt the present mova is not yet known. In the spiníon of Messrs. Morimura Brot of Tokyo, 'the all- way companies may desire to discontinus the through rates including steamer and milway ways. In that case, the freight on Japanese goods would be increased by 50 per cant: op cheap goods and tripled or quadrupled on goods of bigher value; and the trade between span and Amèrica may be seriously affected. This change may be adviclageous to American manufacturers, but it is doubtful whether it is to the advantage of the American nation at large. This is an important question affecting not only the trade between Japan and America, but the trade of the world.

A New York message dated July 30th to the Asahi states that the decision, of the great Americas allway companies to abandon the export and import trade with the Orient, which was first published by the Nine York Herald on the 29th ultimo, appeared in all the other papers on the 30th.
