The above regulations will probably not satisfy the shareholders in the company and in some cases may cause hardship to those

In addition to the questions raised with re ference to the redemption price the above

regulations de vot appear to" be equitable in the case of any shareholder who may be ablest from China either on basinais or travelling, for, according to clause.(2), such shareholders are liable to suffer a still further reduction in the redemption rate owing to their not being at home on the 1st day of the 7th. mune, through no fault of their own;

Again by clause (3) shareholders who aro not residents of Peking máy have their cer tificales redeemed at the different: Tele- graph offices; but there are many partsTHE Steamship of Chips.extremely remote from any such offices and a shareholder who resides in such a. district would be pur to considerable trouble and expense in travelling to and from such an office for the purpose of redeeming shares. This is scarcely just or equitable. It is true that by clause (8) this is somewhat mo- dified, but is not even here made clear what bank is implied. If any nativë bankër is empowered to act as an agent for the redemption of the shares at the rate of 5170.00 the matter is certainly, simplified. In such a case it is to be presumed that the Government will pay the Banker's commission for so acting."

It is a pity that the regulations are not more specific, but a supplementary draft could easily. rectify the most glaring faults in the document “as-at-present-drawa—Chinese;Public-Opinion:----
