“NEW`REGULATIONS.
la view of the large number of cattle with contagious disease that have been 'imported to these islands during the past few months, the Monila Times says, the director of agriculture has promulgated a set of relas and regulations to take effect on June 20, probibiting the im portation of such cattle, and declaring a pen days' quarantine of all animals coming into the Archipelago from countries where a communi- cable animal disease is known to exist.
The shipments of animal from China for the past six months have practically all shown the presence of rinderpest and the foot and mouth diseano. The animals suffering from the diseases, when driven over the streets, infect the thoroughfster over which they pass and in consequence other animais are subject to the malady and epidemics develop
The animals being imported from lado China and Australia are generally free from contagious disease, so that the new regulations will affect only those from Hongkong and porta "in portbare China:
The regulations provide that until such time at the Bureau of Agriculture may be able to provide quarantine corrals, and sheds all cattle imported to these lands must be quarantined in sullablo, corrals
or sheds provided by their owners. When over three successive shipments arriving in the Philippine Islands from any foreign port prove infected with any dangerous communi cable animal disease, notice will be given im mediately in writing to the local consigned and by cable, if practicable, that landing permits will not be granted for further shipments from such ports containing animals-tuffering from such disease.
