THE SHAU-KI-WAN BURGLARY.
SERGEANT FOWLER HIGHLY COMMENDED.
After having been confined in the Gavera: ment Civ aurutal for over a month-to be precise, a month and live days-suffering from injuries which he had received in a struggle with Police Sergeant Fowler along the Shau kiwao Road, Lin Shing, no unemployed carpenter, was brought before Mr. H. H. J. Gomperts, this forenoon, at the Police Court, to answer three charges of burglary and one of cutting and wounding the Sergeant.
Readers will recollect that about midnight on the gih ultimo, while Sergenat, Fowler was- returning to Bay View Police Station, he heard cries of "Thief, thief" coming from one of the houses-No. 24. if we remember aright near the Sam Woo timber yard. The officer made for the spot immediately and was in time to see a big and muscular Chinaman, looking very excited, leave one of the houses on the row from when the alarm was sounded. Buspecting that he was the thief, Sergeant Fowler' crep: behind. him and seized him by the queue.
"What's matter you?" asked the Chisaman in English, looking very indignant.
"Come along with me, seturned the officer, leading the suspect back to the house he had just left.
