"A Washington message to the Jiji stalon that. the American Raw Silk Association bas adopt ed a resolution strongly consuring the Japanese raw silk trust, and declaring the intention to retaliate by a boycott of Japanese raw silk,
A telegram is said to have reached a certain quarter in Tokyo from New York to the same effect, adding that the silk wenvars in the United States are quito, indifferent to the resolution just adopted by the Raw Silk Association.
Our vernacular contemporary states that tha silk market in Yokohama appears to be quite unconcerned at the news, the ballef being ex-
pressed that it will not have any serious effect upon the Yokotama marketi
As was mentioned in these columas recently, the trouble originatedio an agreement between the three silk reeling frms—the Usai, Kanraku and Shimonita Silk Reellug Companies--of Gumma Prefecture, and the Mitsui Bussan Kaisha and Kiito Ganei Kaisha, of Yokohama, for the direct export of silk produced by these companies through the other firms named.. Foreign sille firms protested against this arrangement, demanding that the silk of the Steam Launches of Bleel or Wood, Lignters, Steel Buildings and Roofs, Bridge Gumba firms should he sold to all export firms Work, and all kinds of Machinery are made on the premises.

Tanders will be made up when required and the workmooship and material will be guaranteed.
The cost of Decking, and repair work, will be found to compare favourably with that firms in question, and this decision was

The Osaka Mahticki remarks that as thạ result of the agreement, the competition in selling the silk has been reduced, business har been forwarded, and the market has gone up, being quoted some Yig'above the best Shinsku raguri, It may be thought, adds the Osaka journal, that the American boycott will serious. ly affect the silk market, but this dispute in -only-the-outcome of a disagreement between Japanese and foreigo silk exporters, and the Japanese should consider the question very carefully, and refrain from taking any tasty action. Some doubt is felt by Japanese dealera that the American merchants may break their contracts in enforcing the boycott, and the carrying out of the resolution may therefore be rendered difficult.-Jußen Chronicle.
THE PROPOSED MATCH "COMBİNK“
REASONS FOR THE DELAY.
We learn from the 'Omka Skimpa that the expert sent out by the English syndicate which- has undertaken the match combination in' Japan returned to Yokohama from China on the and instant, It will be remembered that, as stated in our columns at the time, the expert, on arriving from England, found mat- ers for the proposed match combine in such An unsatisfactory state that he decided to, first of all, take a trip to China. Mr. Matsumoto Kumpel, a member of the Dict, who has been acting in the interests of the English syndicate in the project, is in Osaka'at the present time. No, Nov. 1997. He has been strongly urging the Japanese projectors of the combination to exert them- selves in order to beaten forward the ***Beginning of Nov., 1907. scheme. This gentleman has reminded the Osaka match manufacturers that should, the project as it seems in danger of doing -fall through, the future development of Ja panese industry requiring foreign capital will be much bampered, white the Confidṣacè of

The Osaka journal attributes the hitch which has been experienced in the project to a dis agreement of opinion among the leading manu- facturers concerning the assessment of the value of their factories. There are over 50 match. manufacturers in Osaka and Kobe. Of these, the most prominent are Mr. Inouye Teijiro, of Quake; Mr. Takigawa Benso, and the Ryoshi- sha, of Kobe, and these leading manufacturers are hesitating to declare the value of their factories, each waiting for the other to report the assessment. This is said to be the principal cause of the hitch., Speaking of the producing power of each factory, Contidues the Osaks journal, these three leading manufacturers contribute nearly one half of the total output of matches in Osaka and Kobe. When the. value of their factories is assessed, the femain-. ing manufacturers will naturally follow them, taking their value as a basis, and the prepar ations will thus be much expedited towards the
