The company intends to replace the three present vessels with three larger ones, and the object of my visit to the Orient has been to attend to the preliminaries of the construction of this fleet. The America- maru, which is making its last visit to this port, the Hongkong-maru and the Nippon-maru will be placed in service between the Orient and South American ports. The vessels which we now have touching at South American ports are only chartered, and these charters will be cancelled..

"The new vessels will be between 1,000 und 6,000 tons displacement, which is about 1,500. toos, greater than the boats in service at present. They will be equipped with turbine- engine and will be oil burners. The Tenyo mars, the first to be finished, will be com pleted in January, 1908, and will be put isto | service at once. The America-ments will pro, ceed from here to the Orient, where she will be converted into an oil burner. Later on the same thing will he dene with the Hongkong maru and the Nippon-maru.

The change will be gradual, and as sOON AS the new vaisals are finished the present ones
