The Public Prosecutor, Maitre Servais, said the accused might be punished lightly..
After this Maitre Fuysmans, counsel for Waddington, delivered his final address. He implored the jury to show clemency towards the accused,' poloting out that if the family of Balmaceda bad to weep for the loss of a son, who had been murderst, the Waddington family had to moura for a living daughter who bad beza dishonoured. The jury would not, he said, add yet another cruelty to all those cruel-4RISON HILL, ties already suffered by the. Waddington family.
AGAIN IN TEARS.",
This part of counsel's address moved the ladies who constituted the majority of those in court to tears, The advocate concluded by urging the jury to consult their own hearts as fathers,
The President then submitted three ques
tions for the consideration of the jury, namely: 1. Was Carlos Waddington guilty of the
crime of which he was accasad)·
a: Was the crime committed with premedi
tatio 1
3. Was there provocation?
The fury retired at half-past four. After deliberating f. hall an hour, they turned with a negativa veidici, and Carlos Waddington was acquitted, and set at liberty,
The public gave him a tremendous ovation, but he remained quite calm,
The President throstened to hav, arrested anyone making a demonstration in court..
The acquittal produced an immenso sensa- tion in Brussels. At the door of the Palace of Justice a great reception was given to the advocates of Câtios Wadding on, and when Mme. Waddington was informed of the fiber- ation of her son she wept for joy.
WILL LEAVE BRUSSELS,
The Waddington family” will quit Brussels as un `naviy da'e, and it is probable that they will raside in Londen,
As Carlon was quitting the building, his father, who was waiting at the door, embraced him and; wapt with his song, the scene being. deeply pathetic, The crowd surrounded Carlos Waddington, and numerous ladies embraced him amid wild enthusiasm. On learning of the acquitta) Mme, Waddington prayed in a burit of texts and gave thankato God,
