Black Signals indicate that the centre is believed to be less than 300 miles away from the Colony,
The above signals will, as heretofore, be hoisted only when typhoons exist in such positions or are moving in such directions that information regarding them is considered 10. be of importance to the Colony or to shipping leaving the harbour,
These signals are repeated at the Hasbour Office, H.M.S. Tomar, Green Island Sigoel Mist, and the Flagstaff on the premises of the Hongkong and Kowloon Wharf and Godown Company at Kowloon.
URGENT SIGNAL
"In addition to the above, when it is expected bat the wind may increase to full typhoon force at any moment, the following Urgent Signal will be made at the Water Fatice Station, ant repeated at the Harbour Office
THREE EXPLOSIVE DOMBS, AT INTERVALS. OF TEN SECONDS.
pany's ship-yard on the Clyde,
By working day and night, and Sunday also, the builders of the newest, fastest, and most i luxurious ocean liner ever planned hopeta, gat the Luritania ready to go down to the Tail of the Bank ou June, 29.
Astonishing secrecy is baing maintained in Glasgow and on the Clyde about the interior arrangements of the wonderful boat, " The secrecy is ascribed in, part to the folly Jest rival companies should learn too much," "afioto the fact that on the stocks near her lles ibe new turbing fruiter the Inflexible, la ba launched on June 26, and now guarded day and night'by armed men.
If the. Lusitania succeeds in reaching the Tail of the Bank on June 17 without delay or
flap, a great weight of anxiety will be.
removed from the minds of her builders and owners. The task of moving the vessel, which' is 785 feet long, down the narrow ̈river-a matter of fourteen miles-will be tremendowa, For her bonefit the river is now being dredged in places, but even so she is expected to go ajround.
יי
In addition to the anxiety about getting tha Lusitania to the sea, the builders and engineers are faced with a problem of great importance in connexion with her propulsion... Recent experiences with turbine propelled brats have lad to the belief that the strain upon the four propellers of the Zusifunia will prova a very aeridus matter when this ship, with its gross tonnage of 37,500, is forced at twenty. five knots an hour through the water. The action of the turbines will tend to keep this huge bulk down in the water, thus prevent- ing pitching, but putting at the same time an immense stress on the propellers To safe guard against mishap to the latter is now the problem worrying the engineers. They hopa to overcome it by altering the pitch of the pro- pellers before the ship goes on her trials.
CURTAINED WINDOWS.
For the first-class passengers nothing will be spared. Each gets so per cent, more room than is the older boats. They can choose be tween dining a la carte io a lovely, white and gold Empire saloon or tablo d'hote in a staider mahogany dining room. Everything has been
designed to look as little like a ship and as much like the Carlton or the Ritz as possible. The fireplaces will, except in bad weather, be quite open and cheerful hearths, The win- dows will be shaped and curtained as lo's pris vate house. Lifts will take the passengers from one deck to anot sex,
ין
The passenger will not even be asked to take adift. • Ife can call up "Central" on the tele phone.and be switched on to the purser or the barber, the wine merchant or the newspaper" shop. In the event of a robber in his cabin or in the cardroom he can even call up the chief of police, and having attended the coun beld by the captain can see the offender committed to the cells.
For the millionaries the state rooms are to A Black Cross will be hoisted at the same be as beautiful as the skill of the first decora time, superior in the other shapes.
