All bedding and perishable fittings ware destroyed, in addition to much freight, Theatrical scenery belonging to Forbes Robertson, who recently left for England after a successful season in America, was burned or damaged. The origin of the „fice is unknown, but suspicion is prevalent that it was incendiary. The loss is several thou sand dollars. The sailing of the steamship,

According to 4 Seatile paper, the Trank Pacific Tariff Bureau recently announced its new rates for freight' commencing from June 15th. The Tariff Bureau is composed of the Canadian Pacific Steamship Company, Nippon Yusen Kaisha, Portland & Asiatic Steamship Company, Boston Steamship Company, China Mutual Steam Navigation Company, Ocean Steamship Company, and the Great Northern Steamship Company. The rates isauad apply to all vessels belonging to the above com. panies.

The new rates are considerably in excess of those formerly in force. Probably the greatest increase is on quicksilver-where the old rate was 35 cents per flask, the now rate is 50 cents. The following shows the increase on commo. dities consigned to Yokohama, Kobe, Naga. saki, and Moji

Protheros and Morris's auction rooms, when.. an original plant', of ́ Miltonia Vexillaria Memoria G, D, Owen and two parts taken from it together realised the sum of £1,375 108. The three plants were scarcely more thas six loches in height, and were quite insignifi, cant looking. They formed part of the "Clare Lawn" collection of the late Sir Frederick Wigan, the three days' sale of which closed. yesterday, realising a total of £4.595.
