DOST LAND RECOVNRED

~ NATIVE FIRM'S QUANDARY.

A portion of waste land at Kennedy Town bas during the past, week been giving the mag agers of the Ng Wo Tas firm, marine store dealers, of No. 12, Holland Street, West Paint, some inconvenience, not to say worry. Fart of this land belong to the Crown and the other part to the Ng Wo Tak: But unfortunately for the Ng We Tak they do noi kaow whete their land commences and where it ends, and therefore during the past month or so have been storing their iron on what they thought was their own land, but in reality was the property of the Crowà. This encroachment became known to Mr. Dillon, the land bailiff, and the Ng Wo Takfirm was summoned for the offence. The cans was heard last week and the Court made an order that the fron be removed at ence, at the same time adjdarniog the summons until this morning. The Ng Wo Tak people were none the wiser as to which portion of the land was their property when the case was adjourned. True they shifted the iron; obeying the order of the Coast, but the Iron never left Crown land. When the second hearing of the case was called ou, before Mr, F, A. Hazeland, this morning, Mr. E. J. Gris was retained by the defence to locate the land. He told the Countbat his clicas had removed the fron from its original place, but still found that he was encroaching,

"Its a bad case," remarked his Worship. "It is known that men in defendant's employ are working on Crown land."

"The iron is very difficult to remore, your Worship," said Mr. Grist,

"He can dump anything anywhere except on his own property," interrupted his Worship "But the man owon property, adjølsing this Crown land," said Mr. Grist tartly.

At this stage the land bailiff entered the Cobit,

His Worship-Is this iron removed, Mr. Dillon?

Mr. Dillon-It wasn't removed yesterday, your Worship. It is still on Crown land. *. Mr. Grist-That it the difficulty, We don't know which is Crown land and which is not.

Mr. Dillon obliged by drawing a sketch of the land and pointed out to Mr. Grist where his land was situated.

"Oh!" remarked Mr. Grist, ha!!* 445, The defendant's name was then called, and a Chinaman dressed in's black long coat en teret the Court and stood beside the dock,

Mr. Dillon (pointing to the individual at the dock)-He is not the man that is summoned, your Worship."

"His Worship (to the Chinaman)-Where is the man who came up last time'?

"Outside," said the Chinaman. "Call bim in," said his Worship. "He is in Canton," remarked the Chinaman, correcting himself.

"They generally go to Canton when there is a case against (bem," said his Worship.

This man is a partner in the firm,' Mr. Grist said. "The summons' is against the firm."

"How long can you take to clear away the lion bow," asked the Court."
