The Earthquake in Jamaica.

LONDON, 16th January, The earthquake at Kingston occurred on Monday afternoon.

Mr. Hamar Greenwood, M.P., in a cable to the Colonial Office, states that the city, is entirely destroyed.

Sir James Ferguson, the ex-Minister is reported to be dead, but no other British, Canadians of Americans are reported miss. ing.

Second and third class accommodation will be set apart for warrant officers and troops on the upper deck. It is expected that the Emerands will be launched on Monday.

A JAPANESE TRAINING.SHIP.

CADETS FOR THE MERCHANT MARINE. Within recent years 'training ships of ather nations have not been altogether uncommon in Sydney Harbour. The latest to put in an ap pearance is the Japanese vessel Taisei Maru. The visitor is an auxiliary four-masted bargue, of 2,247 tons, carrying double topgàilant saʻli, She is from Yokohama, via New Caledonia, the trip being made purely for the instruction of 86 cadets, and their preparation, for Japan's mer- cantile marina and naval reserve. The Toltef Maru was built at Koba two years ago for the Shosen Gákko (Nautical College), which has headquarters at Tokyo, but was immediately
