Anyhow, there is so much doubt about the harmfulness of most bacteria to the human, that it seems hardly worth while straining at the presence of a few in water used for washing, while all around us in the dust, on the roads, in sewage, in the drains, on our food, in the air there are countiess millions which might also, under conceivable dircumstances, prove hurtful. Possibly the expert biologist suffers from a lack of the sense of proportion, and is prepared to strain at the water bacteria while he swallows wholesale the aerial and food varieties.
