was with John Little's in tronuiengery and furniture, where the machinery consisted of lawn mowers and agricultural machinery. When they came to a big machine they turned it up in Mr. Hogan's list and then looking it up in their own lists showing the prices of new and secondhand machinery, thus they formed

an estimate of its value.

In estimating the value of a machine thay were guided by their price lists. Either of them suggested a price, but witness was ruled by Mr. Coghlan regarding the final figures. Ile could not remember at where suggestion he joined Mr. Coghlan in the valuation, possibly. it was his own, but he was sure, it was Per Awa Mary, from Singapore for Hong. not at Mr. Down's suggestion. It was quite pos-kong-Mr. and Mrs. Naviguy, and Mr. D. sible ha had had conversations with Mr. Down Steel. For Kobe Mr. Doi. about Mr. Coghlan's forthcoming valuation, but as far as he could remember the suggestion of kis accompanying Mr. Coghlan was bis own. He went with Mr. Coghlan as he had a personal interest in Hogan & Co., being a shareholder, He had 32 shares. He knew the directors wanted an estimate of the value of the ana chinery, but he did not know they thought the machinery had been overvalued. He did not know the previous valus arrived at end was greatly, surprised to bear how much lower their valuation was. He had some experience in valuing machinery, but without the help of a catalogue he could not quote the value of second-hand machinery. He would not swear to the lists, but so far as memory served him they were the ones given him by Mr. Hogan Wilness later dentified his figures on the lists. The director, did not see the lists until they

Department was not valued as witness and his colleague, Mr. Coghlan; were told the things were away on a steamer,

By Mr. Elliot: The valuation was started about a year age. Mr. Coghlan and witness worked from 7 am to 10 a.m. for about a month. They slapped at 10 am, as it was more convenient to themselves and Hogan & Co. He did not get leave from the Borneo Co. He did the work on his own initiative. He considered he was equally able to value ordinary machinery as Mr. Goldie or Mr: Gil. He did not consider the prices mour were, the machinery might fetch at auction. When the machinery was actually auctioned it fetched far below what they had estimated is value át. He shared the fee paid for the valuation. Mr. Robertson was not there a! the time of the valuation..

Quice Pong snid' he was formerly a clerk to Hogan and Cn. He was now clerk to the liquidators. He was the typist in Hogan and Co. He could recognise his own typewriting. Exhibit "I was typewritten by him.

By Mr. Battenberg: He was very busy at the time he made the documents." Sorne he copied from draits by Mr. Hogan and others he took down at Mr. Rogan's dictations. When he saw these documents lately Mr. Odell did not suggest that certain ones were from Mr. Hogan's dictation and others from drafts. After much cross-examination it was elicited from witness that "by dictation" be mean copying from a rough note made by Mr. Hogan. He could not be sure whether be made the lists from drafts or trom dictation. He was in Hogan & Co.'s all the time Mr. Smellie was there. One day he saw Mr. These Smellie give the tamby papers in burn.

Mr. Smellic paper were from the big sife. baraed old and useless papers. Mr. Smellie selected papers he wanted and had the rest burned. A large quantity of papers and account books were burned. The bonfire 100k place at 10 ani, one morning shortly after Mr. Smollie had joined the firm. Witness wat
