The total value of the gold raised in the world last year was £77,338,466, as compared with £71,105,827 in 1904. £67,021,850 in 1903, [261,328,310 in 1901, £54.774.769 in rear, £53,883 164 in 1000, £64,612,663 in 1899, £39.538,651, in 1898, £48,780,511 in 1897 and L41,713,715 in 1896. It will be observed that the outbreak of the war in South Africa in the autumn of 1899 reduced the yearly totals, but that, upon the conclusion of peace' in May, 1902, they again resumed their onward course, STRAITS,
