JAPANESE SILVER COINAGE.
A NEW ISSUE.
The Japanese Government propose to make amendments in the existing system of silver coinage, by which the weight and size of the present 50 den and 20 sen silver pieces will be reduced. The silver pieces in question are considered excessive bath in weight and size. In addition to these disadvantages, the relative value of go'd and silver in the existing Coinage Law is high, the ratio being r of gold to 28.75 of silver, in comparison with the European and American ratio of 1 to 14. The new go sen silver pieces will be 27 mome or 10.115 grams in weight, instead of 1.59 momme, and the za sen pieces will be 1.08 memme or 4.05 grams, instead of 1.43 momme. The size of so sen pieces will be 0.9 run instead of 1,02 sun, and 20 sen pieces 0.67 fum instead of 0.74 sun, while the relativa value of gold to silver will be 1 to 21.6. Mr. Slade said that they had applied, tine and time again, for the documents, and had icated the nature of those they required zid they were tired of doing so. He then read the affidavit in full, and afterwards said that until he had been put in possession of all te corespondence that had taken place rela. tive to the case he was unprepared to go on with it.
