CANTON-HANKOW RAILWAY SQUABBLE. I understand that in connection with the construction of the Canton-Hankow railway, trouble has arisen between the merchanta anil the

They in propose to levy a poll-ins, and to levy a rale on the * properly of the wealthy, to these proposals The merchants and gentry are strongly opposed.

THE BOYCOTT,

This building provides fine lecture raams, and a reception hall, and rooms for physicians, and is finely located, , giving to the students a manding view of the country, with abundance of light and ventilation. The building is three stories to height, and is easily accessible, and adapted

to the pressing needs of the College. So great is the desire to gain medical eduen. tion that numbers have been 19rned away, and there is great demand for another dormitory.tinue the fayret. Already every nom is fully occupied, efforts will be made this year to secure needed enlargement. The medical faculty is a strong ons, and the standard' is et high every re- gard is paid to thoroughness, and no graduate receives a diploms who has not met all the re- quirements of the examining committee.

This is the only institution of i's kind in the Empire, and we understand that it is the purpose of H., the Viceroy, to give some financial support to make this Women's Medical College a model for the Empire. Already students are here from other, pro vinces, and there is every indication that the *pplications will reach ne hundred before pro-
