dead woman belonged in a station in life which will added to the renat on certain to be caused by the investigation of the details of her death, Mystery of the densest port marks even the detection of the hour of the pirl's death, and no clue has been left by which the police can be certain of the tracing of her or her companion on the night of the killing.
Coroner O'Gorman has decided that the vic. tim of the fearful attack had died twelve hours before the discovery of the body. She is be- 'lieved to have been slain somewhere in Man. battan and carried tokhe Bronx in an automo bile through the driving rain of Friday night, Sha was murdered abrat midni„la on Friday, after having been attacked by a man or'men. The skirt of the girl's dress is covered with mud, indicating that she must have been dragged into the biding place in the heavy thicket on Friday night while it was raining.
The woman was brutally slain, Her skull was crushed in, and about her neck were the marks of four figures plainly imprinted upon Ailsacrals, Br. ss. 2,166, A. D Moody, 29th
the Arms white dash.
From her Angers had been stripped the ringa | which might have led to her identity, and the flash had been torn away with the golden bands. But one fact is apparent from the circumstances 'connected with the discovery of the body, The "haunted oak" is avoided by all in that neighbourbood, and few go hear it in the day and none at night While carrying the body through the woods, the murderer was perfectly safe from detection. None would have followed him through that] thicket, which is firmly believed in the Bronx to be frequented by things uncanny,
