NEW DIOCESE OF FUR-KIEN
The Archbishop of Canterbury has arranged for the creation of a new missionary Bishopric out of a portion of the diocese of Victoria, Hongkong. The missionary work in the latter diocese is carried on in the three mainland provinces of Kwang-tung, Kwang-si, and Fuh. kien, by the Church Missionary Society. The province of Fah-kien, which is fanious as the scene of much persecution of native Christians, It is contains over 10,000 baptised converts. also stated that the Archbishop of Canterbury has appointed the Rev, Herbert Gresford Jones, vicar of St. John's, Keswick, to be first
Bishop of Fuh-kien. He is a son of Canon William Jones, formerly vicar of Burneside, Kendal, and graduated in 1891 from Trinity College, Cambridge, taking a second clase in in the Classical Tripos. BERTROUT CULTIVATION IN
EUROPE IN 1905.
The depression in the sugar beet cultivation of most European countries last year produced a rise in values and has this year also caused A strong fluctuation in the price of sugar. It is therefore of importance that the Interna tional Association for Sugar Statistics has re- cently published the results of its inquiries made for May 3rd to the 13th.
