At the dinner of the Japan Society last night, there were enthusiastic cheers when ever reference was made to the Alliance.
Sir Claude MacDonald, the British Minister, said that the aim of the alliance was the maintenance of peace. That peace had not been preserved in the Far East was regret table, but the localisation of the war and its disasters was due to the alliance.
The allied nations had emerged from the hardest trials during the past three years equally satisfied with the salutary effects of the alliance, which he hoped would be extended not only to the two countries, but to the world at large.
