We are courteously informed by Conselheiro THE Bible which belonged to Robert Buros, G. Romano, Consul-General for Portugal, the national poet of Scotland, has been sold for £1,550. The Bible contains birth entries of that the chartered transport Lindala is expected to arrive at Macao on the 18th inst. The Lindule is a B. I. S. N. Co.'s boat, and was chartered by the Portuguese Government, and is conveying the Portuguese troops who sailed from Portugal on the transport Sue Thomi, which, it will be remembered, was wrecked in the Red Sea at the beginning of December. The local agents of the Linduda have instrac tions to clear the boat from the Pantuguese Port as carly as possible after her arrival.. It is with deep regret that we have to record the death of Mr. Walier Noyes Morehouse, Com- - missioner of the I. M. Customs; late of Lapps, Macao. The deceased gentleman had been suffering for some time from Bright's disease, which resulted in his death, at Florence, on the 15th December, in the 57th year of his age.

A Russian detachment consisting of eight squadrons with 12 guns appeared and attacked our commissariat station at New chiatung on the 12th inst., but they were repulsed on all sides. A small body of the Russian cavalry on the night of the rath secretly invaded the districts of Ausbautien, Haicheng, Yinkow and Tashikiao, and partly destroyed the railway, which was, however, immediately repaired.

We have much pleasure in reproducing below'n free translation of a letter received by last mail from South Africa from one of the coalies who enlisted as a Chinese policeman, and who acted in that capacity during the voyage, as well as on his arrival at the mines. The letter, as will be seen, has no intrinsic merit or interest, says the P., and T. Times ; its
