THE WEIHAI WBI GOLD MINING CO., LD.
(Continued from Wednesday.) (Mr. F. E. Taylor's speech continued) To turn to the mine and the prospects before it. We are now working the Gin Tzu Ling mine, which is more than half a mile in length, thoroughly prospected and partially developed. Shafts are being driven with two levels of 40 and 100 feet. The shaft is already down to 105 fier, and right through the ere appears to be! very remunerative. The outcroppings have since been traced for nearly three miles and you are all probably aware that in the first extension, I think the one to the north, there was found 4:02. 8 dwts, of gold to the ton. I don't think the shareholders read Mr. Dawson's reports, and indeed they are not attractive read- ing. The impression I gained of Mr. Dawson, when I had the pleasure of meeting him in the summer, is that hals very careful of what he says:
If he is disappointed he says so, and if he is pleased be says so. He states the facts as he finds them and tells us what be frankly believes,
I have talked with him and 1 believe we CAN
has helped to segnate our market, bat a re- action after the settlement is confidently anti cipated.

twenty-six dwts, from outcroppings further up the hill than our present works, If you will look at the last report, No. 27, and examine it to ste what ore actually passed through the mill last month you will see that during October the lowest assay was four dwts, and it ran up to six and a half dwis. Now you will ask, as i asked, and as the Directors have asked of Mr. Dawson, how, with such good ore in the mill, we have got such a low return of gold. Mr. Duff has told us that when these copper plates are first used they absorbed a certain proportion; that is one reason. And secondly, if you look at the report you will see that the assays of the tallings were too high after the ore had been passed through the mill and been concentrated. There was also a leakage from the vanner tanks but towards the end of the lime it was reduced. I understand further that all ores have their idiosyncracies, and it takes some time to know how to treat each particular ore, so that it would not have been wise to put the first-class are through the mill till we knew
something about it; and yet, fu aplie of putting through a lot of rubbish, we got two dwts. in the ton; but it seems to be consider." ably better than that, for the bullion, I see, is returned at £809.

out of the mine, far in consequence of the heavy rains the mine was flooded in the sum- mer. The new report shows.ws hayo had 3 dwts. 4 grains of gold to the ton in addition to silver, and we understand they are working now from the main level, from which we hope to get five dwts. We took out trom the mine last month gold to the value of $6,000 Mexican
changedown.char. Cotton Mills-Ewo Cottons have found bullion, and the rest romains at Weihaiwalay nandinion.hawa.baffected. concentrates to be treated subsequently. If of Laou-Kung-Mows at The 30, Hongkong we get four dwts, this month, as seems likely, Cottons have receded to 313. we should have $12,000 Mexican to deal with, that is to say. treating it on the same plan, $6,000 would come down here in bullion and $6,0co remain at Weihaiwel as concentrates. Next month we ought to get at least $20,000 in bullion, of which $10,000 will be required for expenses and the remaining 110,000 will be profit. I have spoken to Mr. Duff about these figures and apparently they are not far out. We have bad very heavy expenses to meet up to the present and consequently there is this over draft of $38,000 to be covered. We have to thank Mr. Wolf, who has put up security of his own to the extent of $20,000-so that only $18,000 remains uncovered, and on the strength of that $19,000 the Bank holds a lien on the mines, buildings, and properties. The mill alone cost $96,000 gold and Mr. Duff estimates that our mine, on its present showing, would be worth in America $2,000,000 gold. I can quite understand that it would be a templation to a new and struggling institution to get hold of that valuable property for $18,000. 1 should like to say I think it it is a pity we are not financed by Wayfoong, which always deals generously with its customers. What do we want? I have said we had $3,000 in bullion HE following Hours of Business will be down last month and we hope to get $6,000

this month. That would leave a deficit for December of about $4,000 besides the deficit on last month. January will probably look after itself, but we want ready money now to the extent of about $10,000 taken up by the end of the week and we should then be free. It is very safe investment; in fact it might be des cribed as very much of a igilt-edged security, seeing that the value of the mill alone at half. price is $48,000 gold, And if the debentures are viewed favourably, I should like to see the overdraft paid off and the account removed to another Bank.
