NEW

We have received from the Hongkong Observatory a new code of meteorological signals which comes into force at Hongkong

on New Year's Day. They are the same as

those at present in use at Shanghai, and will

be boisted on the mast beside the time-ball af Kowloon Point for the Information of masterb of vessels leaving the port. They do not neces tarily imply that bad weather is expected. The signals are as follows:-

A cone point upwards indicates a typhoon to the North of the Colony.

A cone point upwards and drum below in dicates a typhoon to the North-East of the Colony,"
