BAD NEWS FROM KWANGSI.
News has been received from Wuchow, on the West river, Kwangsi, to the effect that a body of 5.400 troops, under the special com- inand of H. E. Liu Ch'un-lin, the new Provin- cial Treasurer of Kwangsi, has mutinied and gone over to the rebels, taking with them all their arms, ammunition, and commissariat sup- plies. The cause of the mutiny is the failure of the Kwangsi Provincial Government to pay these troops their wages for the past five months Besides this, the troops were in want of their winter clothing, and many of them died in con. sequence of exposure as well as starvation. The mutineers therefore had no other alterna- countryside for food and clothing, after which tive, being forced to rebel and plunder the they joined the rebels.--N. G. D. News,
