Take as a sample the normal way of beginning a restful holiday in Switzer land, say at one of the Valois mountain resorts. It starts with a nightmare journey in a crowded P.L.M. carriage, by the night train from Paris to Lausanne; but convalescence sets in with the coffee at Pontarlier and the welcoming tinkle of the cow-bells as the train climbs through the sunny pastures of the Jura. And then at Vallorbes, the Swiss frontier station, the picture post-card is upon one, and peace va. nishes again. Vallorbes is a lovely spot, a place from which these card must be sent if from any- whers, and a ruab of enger purchasers from the train is almost certain to enforce this fact.
