The obstacle being the absence of direct shipping facilities, the Japanese Government will, on receipt of the commis- sioners report, arrange this matter. Only articles suited to the market will be sent out.

Among other. business transacted by the Committee of the Hongkong General Chamber of Commerce at their monthly meeting on the 16th just. was the question of the proposed fast Atlantic service by the Canadian and Pacific Railway Company.
The Hon. C. S. Sharp (Chairman) directed the attention of the Committee to the fact that negotiations are now going on between the British and Canadian Governments and the Canadian Pacific Railway Company for the establishment of a fast passenger and mail service across the Atlantic between Canada and the United Kingdom, and painted out that in connection with such proposed Atlantic service an accelerated train service across Canada had
