PERILOUS ADVENTURE IN THE HARBOUR,

1

At about half-past one on Wednesday, whilst P. C. Cook, who was on harbour duty in a pinnance, noticed an overturned sampan леле the Canton-Macan wharf, and some Chinese struggling in the water. On arriving at the scene he saw a European also in the water, who turned out to be Captain Andersco of the steamer Hatton. It appears that Capt. Anderson, who engaged the sampan from his ship, was just nearing land when a sudden squall struck the sampun and upset it, precipi tating the occupants into the water. All were safely taken on board the pinnace, when it was discovered that a young child was missing. alactity the Chinese

THE SENTENCE..

In passing sentence His Lordship said Albert Marshall, you have been found guilty on, I think, very clear evidence, of shooting at your captain on board of the ship on which you were steward with intent to murder him. If that bullet which you fired and cut his shoulder with had gone into his brain or into his heart-nchher of them were very many inches off that spot-you would undoubtedly have been tried for murder.
