GERMAN MAIL STEAMERS.

TIME TABLE FOR 1903.

in the world and the point I am about to be, indiguant and to weep is also existing in this.. I think that there is no other places, where is many people assemble and melt away as Na-

! The time table of the Norddeutscher Lloyd gasaki and perhaps, there will be nowhere for 19:3 shows some alterations and improve. better than this place that all the good andments against last year's. The mail steamers eniment persons of the whole country assemble as well as I w people and villains.

This is from the first what the advantage of situati a cause to be so, but in spite of her being now fortunate, it can not be assured that the roet af evils for the future may possibly be not exising concealed. Á virtue and good cumons can be planted in a day but els and disgraceful actions are apt to be intiuenced in aachent. However her people any boast of their briety and acumulate amiable and ejreuen spect virtues, there shall be an opportun ity when they may be some time softened.

The noted weds of the public feelings is really existing concealed in obscurity; and if the evil custoons should once assault, there is ..no way to save it at last,

If her people shoulddn't now pay attention to this, they shall keep their repentances as long as ten thousand years.

Moreover, its root of evils is as though there is such fear as it is about possibly to assault a part; and the evils which are not being a little extended must be warned. Iler people have many histories to host of for their compatriots"; as well as foreigners; at the same tinie, the responsibilities they bear are also not light at ali.

All the foreigners who come to this country are treading and looking at this place.

it is not exaggerative that all kinds of things firstly are said to be. Nagasaki; and the duty that her people especially shall be warned is not light.

I will argue' below about the position of the newspapers on this point:

The people of the world are saying that they shall make aliving by harassing and asking for the men of newspapers and petty-loggers.

What stander! Ah! what insult it is! How can I cease in silence?

will in future leave Europa a day later. Naples the express steamers of the New York- Genoa lines connect with the mail steamers to China and Japan, and through tickets will be issued from New York to Asiatiċ and Australians parts, and vice versa, Bremen, Southampton Cherbourg or Italian' ports. As the Eastern Asiatic nail steamers will in future call at Gibraltar, passengers from the northern European ports have the opportunity to make a few pleasant trips in southern Spain and then to proceed from Gibraltar with the New York steamer direct to Naples where they rejoin the 'Asiatic tirer. On the Australian mail fine, the steamers will run three-weekly in future so that homeward bound passengers may occasionally, stay over in Colombo for a week and proceed with a steniner of the Australian Line. The runs on the Singapore Sydney line, will be soubled; and steamers will start every six weeks from both, ends.

stalled departing worshippers at the Calcutta Cathedral. A great part of the Calcutta congregation were in the habit of quietly clipping out while the bymun before the sermon is being sung. Dr. Welldon, deter- mined to reprove the habit in the presence of those indulging in it. So, one Sunday, on rising from prayer, the congregation found the Metropolitan already in the pulpit. He said they would dispense with a hymn, in order that the sermon might be preached to a whole congregation instead of a small pretion of it. He then proceeded to cordeinn strongly the practice of leaving church in the middle of the 736) service, as not only disrespectful to their spirt ual guides, but also as irreverent, since religi

a part of Divine worship as the recital of the prayers. After this rebuke no one ventured to leave until the conclusion of the sermou, which the Bishop then proceeded to deliver.

But it is lamentable that there must be some reason for this which I feel deeply regrerful.

There a man as trying textort money frommus instrucioni a d ́exhotaion were as much the bosoms of the people, be making a peculiar sentences and fabricating groundless notes to stir up.honest and good men and women and

到 wan trying to extort an expense for his amu sements, by taking advantage of the people's weak quint with his handwriting,

It is unavoidable that people fear this like a poisonous insect and undervalue this as ex- trenic meanness character, of when they see this action frequently among the persons being called as the editors of newspapers.

Those simple minded people of ancient times who had been enticed and confounded by those like petty foggers and happened to quarrel with father and child and to bring suit against each other are being much observed at present with its evil customs. Ah! 1 must feel shame upon this and that; bowever the premant newspapers' are certainly not such as they are bearing their great.re- sponsibilities for the work as the compass of the world and cars and eyes of the society; and the present erlitors of newspapers are under the positions as well as obligations as the leaders of the civilization and the predecessors of the society,

I believe it is superflunts that the editors of newspapers shall look for the direction beyond the professors of colleges and effects beyond scholars for ethics and educators positively with the influence extending to country and society. I shall appeal to the innocence of foul reputations that the advocates who sound justice and divulge the fair indignation, by standing at solemn court of justice of the world, received for the sake of perty-foggers. at the same time, I must clear away its dishonour on account of the s-called editors of newspapers. I must now develop the original territory of the newspapers as the duty of my ascending un the literary platform; of Nagasaki; and i am about to declare solemnly that I will greatly warm mysely together with all the members of this company to discharge our duties as the editors of newspaper; and this is urgent to feel the necessity of the highest degree, especially in Nagasaki

I have mouth with which I can say anything, if I desire and have pen withe whic I can write anything if I desire, but the former is not from the first given to use any reproachful and "violent languages; and the latter is not given

to do any harm.

My parents made me a man of letters and spirit; and they did not cause me to study the letters to let me blackguard and to let me con

centrate my spirit to do any harm.

As they pray to make me a good man and a' gentleman and are wishing to make me a más of contribution for the country and society, I am always discussing about politics and argu- ing about economy, standing on the literary stage according to this.

At the time when I left my home fourteen' years ago, my parents advised and said to me. "Even if you shall be crushed becoming a gem, I wish you would not expect to be per- ́ ́fect becoming a tile,

.This advice is still now in my ears and 1 wish that I will endeavour to perform this till my life expires...

The predecessors who assembled together on the day when I left Tokyo last December advised and said to me we hope you would mainiain your reputation as a writer." "Alf! my predecessors who all rich in friendly sent!- ments with parental love, although I am in.. experienced, yet I have disposition that I should not positively disobey to this advice.

On writing this on first page of the this Kyushu Hinode Shimbun in the beginning of the new spring, I have to express my hearty thanks Gretly for my parents and predecessors and all the readers for my having had the honor of stating my sentiments of a word,

YUKIMATSU OHTA,

Chief Editor."
