MILITARY EXHIBITION.
(From our own Correspondent) ·
LONDON, October 25th, THE DISMISSAL OF SIR KEDVERS DULLER bas evoked unprecedented excitement. Amid all the wild rumours afloat it is difficult to distinguish the voice of impartial criticism from that" of prejudiced passion. The. Lohdoning *Press, with only three or four exceptions, is unanimously of the opinion that the Comman dar-in-Chlef has acted justlý and for the best interests of the Army, in removing General Buller, but the country Press is more divided. Curiously-and unfortunately for the old
·soldie1,--bis chief defenders are the two Pro Boer journale, the Daily News and the Mors. ing. Leader, which both attribute malice or spite to the War Office, and cowardice to the Government. The Imperialist Express is, however, one morning paper of good repute, brave enough to stand by the fallen, and that, notwithstanding that it strongly condemned the unwisdom of General Buller's speeching across Portuguese territory to the north on October 10th to which is punishment of Lorenco is the sequel. It is possible that a South American State may purchase the French guns on Mr. Kruger's behalf, so as to avoid a technical breach of French amity with England, in which case however, some risk, of capture in retransit would have to be run by the Transvaal Committee of desperadoes. A very patriotic offer was yesterday made by a private gentleman, who stated that if á Volunteer Colonel would open a subscription list for the purchase of these guns for our own citizen soldiers, he would give Lico towards the purpose.

more divided than the agreement of the Press'would lead one to expect while the service is on the General's side to the last man. Tommy Atkins is furious. His language on the subject is impressively ob. jurgative, and plain-spoken to a degree that would, it is to be feared, greatly shock the residents at the office in Pall Mall. Moreover Tommy's faith in another idol-Lord Roberts, to wit, is grievously shaken. Without circum. locution he roundly states his opinion that the long-standing feud between the two officers has much to do with Buller's disgrace. It aint the speech wol done it-they're gettin' the knife in for years back things." Or again

THE KING AND THE NATION:
Lord Salisbury returned to town' yesterday.
Te is understood that his premature resumption of reins of Government, is due to the King's strongly expressed opinion, that affairs have been allowed to drift along, withoutthe guidance of the political rulers of the nation, far too long. If it be true that His Majesty, actuaily.com municated with Lord Salisbury to that effect as has been stated "ok good authority" but which I repeat with reserve-It does but prove how very much quicker the King in tó féal the pulse of the nation, than are his constitutional advisers.
