TO THE EDITOR OF THE "HONGKONG TELEGNATU."
SIK,-The strong diversity existing between your Contemporaries on the subject of Recre- ation, might prove a very strong stimulant to strangers to the Golony-especially on the coming V.R.C. subject of debate, cannot fail to -descry the wanton utility arrayed in both the V.R.C., and the Hongkong Boat Club.
A GERMAN SHIP'S REMARKABLE ADVENTURES,
The annals of the sea would hardly furnish a parallel for the adventures of the German barque Planet, which was recently liberated from the bonds of the law at Queenstown, Ireland.magifte
The Planet was chartered by M.M. Knecht and Co., of Paris, to carry a cargo. of logwood from Mazaltan Mexico, to Plymouth, where the captain would receive further orders.. While being loaded the vessel was blown ashore by a hurricane, in consequence of which the cargo bad to be discharged and restowed.
Then the Plane! started on her passage, but illuck pursued ber all the way. Scurvy broke out and the captain, officers, and crew were stricken down. The London bound steamer Crown Point hove in sight in May, when 210 knots from the Irish coast, and the master sent his third officer, Mr. Bryant, on board to navigate
the ship to Quecßstowo,
Mr. Bryant found the captain very ill and he died shortly afterwards. The first mate had died a few days before, and the second mate was dying. Signals were made to a passing steamer to take the man out of the ship, but the request was refused, and this officer also died.
