The Officers and men of the Naval Brigade The result of the debate on the Spion-kop who did such excellent work during the siege despatches gives general dissatisfaction. The of Ladysmith rejoined theirship at Portsmouth ministers threw the blame of the publication on the 23rd ulte. There could hardly be greater stigma or degradation than had been laid upon General Buller, and all this because the strongest Government of modern times was afraid to face a few questions in the House of Commons. The Duke of Devonshire regretted that General Buller had declined to ewrite a simple narrative of events without

comuments.

"In the House of Commons, Sir Acland Hood asket shelter the Government was dissatisfied with General Buller, and whether it would enquire who was responsible for setting him his share of the campaign, so that the blame might be laid on the right shoulders. Mr. Balfour lenied there had been any attempt to discredit Lord Roberts. Several interrupters challenged him to show that such imputation had been nude. Proceeding, the Leader of the

Geis, Miss L. Giadlestone, M. Groundwater Glover, T. H. Humphry, R. A. Humphry, J. L. The Daily Mail of the 23rd of April says:-- A curious instance of the British bluejacket's Halsey generosity and his love of children is just Hachstads reported at Portsmouth from the China Station. Hall, J. R. -An abic seaman, one, of the crew of H.M.S. Hausler,

the Houston, H. H. Barfleur, received a newspaper containing

They opened a subscription for the child among themselves to pay the fine. The con- tributions were fixed at the lowest amount possible, but the receipts were so numerous that 30s. was raised. This amount was for warded, in a sympathetic letter, to the parents, They were delighted with the spirit of the iling, and gave 103. out of the gift to the local

BRITISH LOSSES.

House insisted that the responsibility for censorship of the despatches lay with Lord Roberts; and, recapitulating the alternatives before the Government, said it was impossible to pick and passages suitable for publication. He pro replying to the tars, they sent a portrait of the posed to withhold future despatches altoge-tittle girl, which now adoms the Harles Ther lignaut, cries of "No.") Mr. lac Neill interrupted saying: "Lord Lansdowne had offered to edit the despatches," Mr. Halfour said he had never been more pained than that the present accusations should be possible in

A portion of the Press is convinced that the publication of the despatches will prevent commanders from speaking pla oly in future.

At Wepener. Maseru telegrins show that the recent Wepener struggle was desperate. Berly in the siege, Captain Driscoll, with fifty scouts, was surrounded by 300 Boers, but managed to hold the enemy at bay from morn until dusk, and escaped under cover of night. The Cape Mounted Rifles sustained seventy casualties during one attack on the south-west corner an the first day of the siege; another day the western redoubt was smashed to pieces.

Sniping continued day and night, and the defenders never left the trenches, as it was impossible to move in the daytime without evoking a shower of bullets. In spite of this a ulful of troups swam the river and opened a sluice, flooding one of the Boer trenches and Dusting a dangerous band of sharpshooters.

Boers Retreating,

The Daily Mail's Lorenzo Marques corres- porden says that 1.300 Hoers have withdrawn from Ntal to Pietersitury during the past fort nighi, making the total number of men on the Northern Frontier 2,000.

THE NEW FRENCH REMEDY.

THERAPION.

This succesful and highly popular remedy, as employed in the Continental Hospitals by Ricord, Rostan, Jobert, Velpeau, and others, combines all the desiderata to be sought in a medicine of the kind, and surpasses everything hitherto employed.

THERAPION No. 1, in a few days only, removes all discharges from the urinary organs, effectually superseding. injections, the use of which does irreparable harm by laying the. foundation of stricture and other serious dis eases. In dysentery, piles, irritation of the lower towel, cough, bronchitis, asthma, and some of the more trying complaints of this kind, it will be found astonishingly efficacious affording prompt relief where other well-tried remedies have been powerless.

THERAPION No. 2, for impurity of the blood, scurvy, pimples, spots, blotches, pains and swellings of the joints, secondary symp toms, disease of the bones, sore throat, and

all

diseases for which it has been too much a fashion to employ mercury, sarsaparilla, &c., to the destruction of the suflerer's teeth and ruin of health. This preparation parifies the whole system through the blood, and throughly eliminates every poisonous matter from the body.

at a Low Price you can sell it at a fair Price without difficulty should necessity arise, if you pay a fictitious price for a poor piano you can hardly realize anything on your investment.

The pianos sold by us, besides yielding daily musical dividends, hold the money invested much safer than ordinary instruments, for the construction is honest and econvinical through-

out.

Several Pianos returned from hire in good order VERY CHEAP
