THE PEAK TRAMWAY.

Hongkong TELKORATH,"

TO THE EDITOR OF THE

DEAR SIR, I was very glad indeed to rend your article on the Tramway Company which, however, was not expressed in nearly as strong tornis as the residents at the Peak themselves employ, especially those residents who have to make use of the Plantation Road Station. The word station is a misnomer there is no station, it is only a bare, open, exposed and danger ously steep platform, while, to get in and out of the outside car, passengers are always in danger of tripping over the rope of the inside car and to ladies, the greasy rope is reinously destructive to their dresses; surely it would be perfectly possible to keep a permanent em, ployee at that station to move a travelling plat- form across from one line to the other accord- ing to which car is due to that passengers by the outside car would not require to run any risks of broken ankles or spoilt dresses.

Even at the top station there is no protection from the rain and no waiting room.

At Bowen Road there is an apology for a shelter, but the car never stops. thers the shelter has been put in the wrong place i

With the increased profits which the com- pany is now earning surely the public right, to demand botter accommodation and Averly the Government; who gave the conces" slop, should insist that the reasonable require- ments of the public convenience ought to be properly attended to.

Yours faithfully, a dedica

The important thing at the present time. people are united and of one mind, the country is to ascertain the public thought. If the will be tranquil. If the public thought is divided, the country must suffer. In this year the Grand Secretary Kang Yi was sent to all the provinces to raise money, and he has every where set the people grumbling. He repre sented that his object was only to get the maney which the officials are squeezing.
