The specimen men. tioned in section seventeen of the report, the miners told me, had strong marks of silver and traces of gold. I showed sainples of mien from anoilier department to the miners, and they told me it was good, and they had no doubt that clear blocks could be cut out. The tica in the United States, I am informed, is too hard and brittle for electric ptors; consequ ently, it must be obtained f India. On July 13th, Messrs. E. and T. The pay, numbering about 400, were conducted through the various deprally as large reserves for that particular purpose

The rapidity and ense with which the naval mobilisation has been effected reflect great credit upon the Admiralty and Dockyard au thorities. In some ways, no doubt, it has not been an altogether fair test of what we could do, were we unexpectedly, and at some other period of the year than the summer, me

An immense advance in the art of mobilisation has been accomplished by our navy in the last ten years, and it can now boast of an organisation which is nowhere sur passed. THE WATER-TUBE BOILER,"

A great deal of interest will attach to the per- formances of the water-tube boiler ships in the coming mimic war. There are eleven in all out, so that no one will be able to complain that the authorities are not testing - ihem- thoroughly. It cannot be denied that the en gineers of the fleet are very divided in opinion: as to their real value, and I have even heard that strong representations have been made that in the new batleships of the Duncan class we are to revert to the Scottish boiler: The Diadem class, two of which are permanently attached to the Channel Squadron, bave shown themselves good for about ze or of kasts in trials with the squadron, but they have given a great deal of trouble.
