WARREN'S CIROUS,

"An agrevable change in the programme was made last night at Warren's Circus. The first new item was termed the Great Arabiam Pyramids,' in which a dozen of the company took part, and it was well received. Benham and Rogers were clever in their comical chair act and Kisto Bysack gave un exhibition of juggling, Miss Eihet Warren was applauded for her. Coon song and dance, several American sailors present being particularly demonstrative. A new ar- riste, Malle. Guidi, went through her balancing trapeze act with credit, and Benbata and RG- Kers appeared in their new role of hat spinning The Elite Acrobats presented themselves in brilliant costumes, and were again accorded an encore for their really clever exercises. Plaudits were also accorded the Sisters Warren in their serial act, and Professor Bristol was applauded for, his performance with his animals, One of the funniescfauroductions of the evening was given by Benham, who appeared in "fetch ing lady's attire, and wheeling a perambulator containing what he loudly and proudly pro- nounced a baby. The infant when prxfuced was one other than a pig which squealed terribly when oursed. Henluan, however, pacific, the Bittle "chukie" by giving him a "poll” at a feeding-bottle, and then surprised the audience by the way in which he made him perform. Mr. Benham was presented with this specimen of the swine species by the daughter of a Singapore attorney. Benham has only had his. per a fortnight, during which time he has train- edit marvellously, The Circus is worth visiting if only to see the pig, for one does nåt. often see such a specimen.

The Tokyo correspondent of the Osuks Mainichi writes that Italy as well as Frupce and Great Britain Blave apparently felt some appre hension that Japas would intervene as regards the Italian demand on China. Towards the end of last month, it is reported, the menibers of the British Cabinet made an inquiry of the Japanese Minister in London as to whether Japan had any intention of leasing any part of China, adding that if Japad had such an intention the British Government would render all possible Assistance (). A number of communications passed between Marquis Yamagata, Viscount Katsura and Viscount Aoki, on the suggestion of Great Britain, and it is reported that the Japanese Government has decided to raise no objection to the lease of San-mun Bay by Italy Further reports state that Japan has alreally informed Italy that she does not consider the Italian occupation of the bay antagonistic to her interests.--Kobe Chronicle.

AMERICAN MANUFACTURING

* EXPANSION.

The export of staple American munufactures: has been greater by far in the past year than ever before. This the balance of trade is not adrely due to the demand for American food stuffs and raw materials. The demand for American from whether manufactured into. machinery, tools, and various finished products or otherwise has reached proportions which make it certain that there must be rapid in- crease in the future. The reasons for this are obvious. The larger the demand for iron, the more cheaply it can be produced, provided the supplies of ore and fuel remain abundant and cheap.
